TRAVEL INSURANCE: Highly Recommended. Buy trip insurance here from Travelguard. This can reimburse you in the event of cancellation for illness, accident, weather, or terrorism. A standard policy will not cover anything virus or pandemic related. It will not cover fear of travel or your destination being inaccessible.
Do not expect Mars Bay to reschedule, credit, or refund your rate for any reason including illness, accident, weather, terrorism, weddings, astroid strikes, or the dog eating your plane ticket. BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE!! In the event that a multi-billion insurance industry will not cover it we won't!!
CANCELLATION POLICY: Full refund for cancellations made 91 days or more prior to arrival. NO REFUNDS, CREDITS, OR RESCHEDULING FOR CANCELLATIONS MADE 90 DAYS OR LESS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL. SEEMS HARSH....WHY?.......
CANCELLATION POLICY
If you contact the lodge more than 90 days prior to the date of your arrival a refund will be issued. It gives the lodge a reasonable amount of time to possibly fill your slot. The lodge will not issue credits, reschedule, or grant refunds if the cancellation occurs 90 days or less from the arrival date.
The policy seems rude....WHY? We're running business. The lodge initially held your slot for months, or even a year, when it could have been sold several times over given the opportunity.
Here's what most don't understand....Every reschedule is a loss equivalent to the cost of your trip. Rescheduling a guest is a slot in the future that cannot be sold. The lodge loses the entire cost of the cancelled trip because it was actually two trips that were reserved with the reschedule; the original dates and the rescheduled dates. When you ask to reschedule you are asking the lodge to forfeit revenues equal to the cost of your trip.
Example: Let's say a fisherman decides he needs to attend a wedding and contacts the lodge in October to reschedule a $5900 double occupancy/six day fishing trip in November for the following March. Both months are peak season when the lodge is booked solid. The lodge held that November slot for six months for the fisherman when it could have been sold several times over. And now he wants reserve another slot in March that can't be sold to another fisherman. The lodge is out $5900 for the November trip that could have been sold to someone else. In addition, if the lodge granted a reschedule, the lodge still has to fish his partner as a single who paid the double occupancy rate of $5900 and did make the trip. The single rate is $7750. Asking him to pay the single rate is not reasonable, he made the trip. The lodge takes another hit, adding insult to injury. We would go broke fishing singles at the double rate. The fisherman wanting to cancel or reschedule is going to have make the November trip or forfeit his rate. No refund, no credit, no reschedule.
A standard trip insurance policy will not cover the above example without a note from your doctor or proof all flights were grounded due to a hurricane. Mars Bay is not an insurance company. Buy trip insurance!!
